The night before the event began I got a girl who works at the BALLY'S pool , Alexis, in the draw just yesterday and an open player in today, as they wanted to play and a spot could be created. I could have said no, but anyone can say "No."

But can you say "Yes?"

Yes is what I said. I said yes to the many volunteers who offered excellent ideas, like Ernestine Miclat's idea to hang up tennis racquets and Christine Miclat's idea to hang them up on the court fences. Or Jasna's idea on decorations, and David Pate's idea to lift the wind screens, and Daneb Ranciato at Wild Oats many ideas in her selection of what to offer players and the presentation in which to do so. And Melanie D'Alesandro's idea on offering a raffle and to give tournament prizes to each age group. This was truely a collective effort amongst many creative individuals, all pulling together to bring about something special, and ultimately something extremely meaningful. Because when it is all said and done, it is always about more then just tennis, but the willingness to thrive in this life in all we do, with PATIENCE, HONESTY and RESPECT.

I did not have to tell THE VOLUNTEERS what to do. Nor did BALLY'S have to tell me what to do. And that is what I told David Pate up front, that he would not have to worry or help or even waste one second on making sure this event was done right.  I knew I will "Just do it," and do not need to be told, and that is what I have surrounded myself with in this tournament committee. Self motivated individuals. Each person has contributed in their own way, whether they know it or not. And it all worked out perfectly as they all had their separate hands in the whole of this event.

David Pate , who was for years the # 1 doubles player in the world, winning the Australian open and 22 other doubles titles,  played on these courts on the strip when his dad worked with Poncho Gonzalez, and as a kid,  he explained what fine tuned his game was the constant competition. Daily he said he would ride his bike to the courts knowing he was playing a match. And if he lost, the next day he was ready for the next challenge. A lot of match play is what it came down to. Playing match after match, and keeping that competition alive. That is what VegasTennis.com will be doing this summer, with MATCH PLAY WEDNESDAY at BALLY'S and , Tuesday Tennis at The Monte Carlo,  and "VegasTennis.com King of the Clay at Turnberry Place" every Saturday from 2-4:30.. And many other VegasTennis.com mini tournament draws... to bring you the match play you want!
