UNLV ASST
Coach Adam Carey WINS AMSTEL LIGHT
Adam Carey has been named assistant coach for the UNLV men's tennis team.
Carey, 23, is a former professional and college player and co-captain at the
University of
Tennessee from 1999-2002, Carey was ranked in the nation's top 20 in
singles in 2000 and '01 and top 10 in doubles those same seasons.
A
native of Australia, Carey was voted the 2002 Southeastern
Conference Tournament MVP and competed in one NCAA singles tournament and
two doubles championships as a Vol. Carey spent the 2004 season as the assistant
at The Citadel
Military College in Charleston, S.C., and has served as a volunteer
teaching pro at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Now Carey adds to the men's open talent pool by beating the previously undefeated and last years champion Kobi Ziv in the final last Sunday on the Clay at Turnberry. More then his excellent strokes and play under the pressure of 40mph winds, was Carey's good natured attitude. I can see Carey will be a significant contributor to Vegas Tennis. Wait and see.
Owen Hambrook, who did miracles with a phanominal turnaround season last year, has secured the head coaching job, and looks to continue to bring UNLV tennis alive. Coming in a few weeks is the Regionals tournamet at UNLV where teams from all over the conference come to compete. You are invited to come out and see the action.
