My first year at the Spanish Trail tournament I was impressed with the sweatshirt give a way (Two years ago). It was far beyond the T-shirt other tournaments had offered and it stood out in my mind. Then last year Fall of 2001) , Dan Knight and Hans Riehemann  put together a very well done, creatively executed tournament. Spanish Trail set itself apart with a unique pre tournament gathering with an exhibition match between some of the best "Pro-level" players in the valley, raffles giving away great prizes like very expensive tennis gear and apparel, along with a full dinner buffet and Tennis equipment demos.

I knew the moment I showed up to video tape the event that this tournament was different, because the head pro, Dan Knight was no where to be found. When I checked into the pro shop his associates were enjoying dialogue, I asked for Dan and they promptly pointed out to center court mentioning that Dan was outside. I went out to see him using the electronic blower to clear off any last minute debris that may have come onto the court and I knew at that moment that he was giving it everything he's got. So I was not surprised at the ease in which the nights exhibition match, dinner and raffle went. A fairly large group turned out and participated. There was also a representative from Wilson there giving  demonstrations of their new rackets and giving a free quasi clinic. The draw was set out for players to view, and the next day the games begun. I do not have the draw from that year, but this year I have posted the draw and results onto the site Draw .  I participated myself and got knocked out in the first round, but got some great video and pictures of the various finals which you can view by clicking here. Dan and Hans continue to push the envelope by coming up with innovative ways to provide tennis events to the Las Vegas community. Their latest effort is with the Flamingo Hilton Tennis Club as they put together a Summer weeknights tennis tournament, along with a car show, catered dinner and product demonstrations.
