Summerlin ends the season with a win over Desert Palm as they swept every match with two singles and one doubles match win and the two other doubles matches won by forfeit.
I played this morning against the number one singles player Kenneth Moy. I got to see first hand why Kenneth was awarded the Ron Darling sportsmanship award and the singles 4.0 champions trophy at the Stacy Darling tournament. I was originally slotted for number two singles but Victor Cardoza asked me to take the number one spot explaining to me that he wanted to play the number two player who is a friend of his who he has not played in some time. They played an excellent match that had to be settled in the tie breaker. Both players making some great shots but in the end it was Summerlin's win.
Meanwhile Kenneth and I started playing with him hitting winner after winner, a forehand hard enough that I would mis-hit, and the first set went to him 6-2, as he tagged the lines and rifled backhands. In the second set It was neck and neck, then I went up 4-3, and Kenneth put a stop to any more advances by closing out the possibility of a tie break situation, winning the final 3 games straight and the set 6-4. He was a complete gentleman and made only one bad call, that being the playing of my second serve that was way long. To me it is just as important to call the balls you know to be out, out, as it is to call the balls that are in, in. And other then that he made some very nice calls where my ball was out he called it out and one shot where he just touched the line on my side and he called it in, and I agreed.
After the match Ken had made the point that I almost took the second set, and I could see he may have the impression that I would be down about a loss. And I explained that I have no problem losing. Not that I don't give it a 100%. I do. I never quit on anything. And that is why at the end of the match win or lose I am satisfied. I had an opportunity, and Ken closed it. Simple as that.
This win for Ken marks his last match of an undefeated season. He has not lost in tournament or league play to anyone. He had an excellent match in the finals of Stacy Darling but no one has been able to take two sets off his hands. For now he says he may be moving to Los Angeles, after living here for five years. I may have possibly been Kenneth last Las Vegas match. If so it was a good one to go out on.
