COMMUNITY TENNIS
I have noticed a separation in the adult and junior tennis community and this web site and ultimately this event is going to pull both environments together to make a more cohesive and explosive tennis community.
GETTING THE SPONSORS....How it happened...
This whole event is here to show players, parents and fans the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. And that is why the phone call I got just days ago was so perfect. Dollie Kurtz called me up weeks ago and asked, "Ryan do you have a main sponsor yet" and I said no, and she said "Would you like one?" And the rest is history.
The
main tournament sponsor is
Mobile Medical Services,
a medical supply company that offers products to ladies who have recovered from
breast cancer and to persons whom use special products to deal with varicose
veins. These are "players in a game" like you and I, whom have had battles
with matches far more complex then a third set tie breaker. Ladies who, faced
with a life threatening illness, are forced to look at life straight in the eye,
and make a choice, "do I do what I know is right and play this out, or do I
quit?" With all the perceived pressure in the world coming down on them, many
come through this challenge to go and live new and wondrous lives. And there to
help them do so,

Cancer is a serious challenge that enters many people's lives and we are forced to realize not to take life for granted. Each moment, conversation and situation is to be dealt with integrity and heart, so at the end of the day, you can be satisfied you did it with a 100%. No regrets. Sometimes you win the match sometimes you don't. But if you played it all the way through, right , then you are a winner regardless. There is always another match another day.
This company is owned by Shawn, Brandin and Dustin Kurtz's mom Dollie, and her partner Kathy Brinkmeyer. These boys began tennis, like many before them, with Craig Witcher at Lorenzi. Now they train with Nenad and Misha Nevtic at The Monte Carlo Tennis Club.
Most tournament sponsors are placed on the back of a T-Shirt, but I knew that Dollie Kurtz and her business partner Kathy Brinkmeyer were supporting this event , not to gain financially, but simply because she, as a tennis parent, and some time player, was led to. I know she, her husband and children use VegasTennis.com and have supported the web site from day one. Now they are an intricate part of making this tournament possible. So I re-created the tournament logo to reflect this heart that her partner, she and her family have instilled into this event, "The VegasTennis.com Mobile Medical Services BALLY's Cup."
It is not a coincidence that once Dollie and her business partner stepped up and took the main sponsorship, many others followed suit. There is a power of two, and when you take two person's stepping up, and are willing to live by faith, a door is opened and something magical is created.
And from that point I then got a call from
GALYAN'S
saying they wanted to sponsor the tournament prizes, then
Melissa Gibson,
who is on the tournament committee and was co-Director, got the commitment from
Wild
Oats food market to provide healthy
and great tasting beverages and snacks for the players. Then I talked with
numerous other sponsors who have chosen to step up and do something to be a part
of this wonderful event.
Thanks to Blaine Banker, who, as one of the committee members got certificates for bowling from SunCoast Casino. She and her son's coach Marty Hennessy were court side to watch Jonathan Ribaste play on center court in the finals, while eating water mellon, and with a tournament poster which Melissa Gibson gave to Blaine.

It
is broken down into departments.. Each sport has it's own wing.
There is the golf part that is huge, the baseball section which is
huge, the fishing section has hundreds of reels and thousands of
lures, boats, and everything you could ever imagine for fishing. The
same is true in the swimming department, including a self inflating
pool that inflates itself , just simply insert a hose. They
have the largest gun selection in town in their hunting section, and
unbelievable skateboarding and bike department. The bike department
is as big as any bike store in town. The golf section is larger then
any golf store in town. And the same is true for tennis. They
even have a whole section just for paintball.
There is not a store I know of that has as much tennis apparel,
equipment and accessories. Lorenzi has just as much apparel, and in
some cases has more of the ladies tennis apparel, but no one in town
has the overall

It is a huge, two floor store in the GALLERIA MALL AT SUNSET and STEPHANIE. More then just sports is a camping and outdoor department that is unprecedented. Large 20 foot boats, kayaks, and tents that sleep 10. And what is amazing is that they guarantee the lowest price on any item, plus an extra 10% off. It amazes me because everything they have is high end, cutting edge items. It is the Neiman Marcus of Sporting goods that offers Marshall's prices. For example, the fold out chairs that many use at tournaments, they are only 4.99 each. This is cheaper then Cosco and Wal-Mart's price. A cooler I bought for the event is the same price as Wal-Mart. The tent I was looking at buying for the event is very high end yet with a WAL-MART price. The only thing they don't sell are house boats. GALYAN'S is the FAO Schwarz of sporting goods and outdoor equipment. When you walk in you are blown away by the selection of items, quality and the 110% lowest price guarantee. Their web site states.. "We work hard to have the lowest prices every day of the year. We won't make you wait for "sales" like some stores. We guarantee to meet or beat their "sale" prices every day. If you find a better price on
an identical in-store item, tell us and we will give you 110% of the difference
off that item. No ifs, and or buts. BEST PRICE PERIOD." If you go there and are not blown away, or are impressed, send me an e-mail, I am interested in your perception. If you are not honestly blown away by the store, I will give you a free pack of professional tennis player trading cards. But I am confident no one will be able to collect on that as I know this store is unlike anything out there. But, regardless of what I stated above, that is not why I approached them in the first place, nor is it why I can, without hesitation , offer them to you as a place with class. Doing this web site, whether it is working with a tennis club or a store or individuals, I have a certain standard. I can not work with someone or a group that is anything less then first class. If someone is willing to do it right, then I too can do my part in doing it right with them. There are certain tournaments, clinics, tennis clubs, organizations, that from beginning to end, offer the right service with the right spirit. An ingenuity, creativity, Honesty and patience that makes working with them meaningful. Marty Hennessy is one of the many person's in Las Vegas tennis that falls into this category. When I promote an event he is doing, I know that he follows through on what I am saying to you. I can write about it's success sincerely. That is where I stand with all of the sponsors of this event, and I found this goodness in each sponsor expressed in their own unique way. GALYAN'S UNIQUE way has a story. In the beginning years ago, GALYAN'S,Wild Oats food market and Mobile Medical Services , were small family owned businesses. They began, like this web site, .. . through innate interest. WithGALYAN'S , one person had an idea in 1946 and was led to follow through on it, and over time the company grew to 36 stores in 17 states, thriving due to a grass roots way of doing business. In corporate America there is a way of maintaining principle while making a reasonable profit.GALYAN'Shas made a point to stay true to the principles that brought them their famed success. When I asked Sam Baker, the Ski/Bike/Water sports/Camp Department Director, a questions today, it became real what this corporate mission statement stated. Here is a guy who has been working for the company for 7 years. He moved from Atlanta to Las Vegas to open up this store. He loves his job. He bikes, swims and does all the things he then brings to his sales floor and explains to you. So when he is talking it is not false or contrived to get paid, but a sincere explanation of what he has experienced about a sport he is thoroughly involved in. Each department person is recruited from the sporting community in which they are selling.
