High School tennis draw

This tournament had a special High School tennis draw, for all the players that are athletic and play tennis, but play other sports as well, and do not play year round. This draw gives them an opportunity to play with other intermediate players instead of going against the top ranked players that play year round.
It was a huge success, as players from many different high schools came to compete. One high school in particular made an excellent effort, Centennial, all due to the efforts of Melissa Gibson. She contacted the coaches, both of which were extremely cooperative and worked with her to get their players in the draw. Since, many of them are now playing at the Saturday VegasTennis
.com King of the Clay at Turnberry place, and Adam Miller, who won the high school draw, has since played in two local tournaments in the 18 and under. Cameron McDonald also is playing more. In the boy's high school final was Jeff Lavigne and Adam Miller. Adam played extremely well and continued his tournament dominance in the finals. The player that gave Adam the toughest match was Sam Moyle who came in from St. George for the event. Sam was a great player and it was an excellent three set match .

In the girls side, this tournament had a special guest from New York, Rachel Waldman. Rachel's uncle, Lester Yesnick, plays on my Mixed doubles team at BALLY'S and brought his niece in just to play this tournament. She is a ranked player out of New York and played both the 16 and under and high school draw. I made an exception and let her in the high school draw as she was traveling so far and this was a good chance for her to play some additional tennis. She did so well, she won the high school draw and nearlly won her first round match against Jacquelyn Tang, but lost in the super tie break in the girls 16 and under draw.

In the high school draw it was
Rachel Waldman and one of this towns most jovial players in Lauren Anspach. Lauren's dad Larry has made a huge impact on his daughter's high school tennis team by getting the Bonanza girls out to play the the VegasTennis.com King of the Clay at Turnberry. He is always at her matches and shares with her a love of the game, and a good nature about it. On Lauren's team, and also playing in this tournament is the smiling Michelle Bishop, who also plays local tournaments often and is a presence at the VegasTennis.com King of the Clay on Saturdays.

She won all her matches but came against the highly ranked girl from New York in the final and took second. She is going to tennis camps this summer and it is just a matter of time before Lauren is a top player. Anyone who is willing to play with the attitude she has , won't quit, but will keep playing and enjoying herself. If there was an award for best attitude in this event and in general, it would be Lauren Anspach's..

In the boys 14  final , Ben Coates's student Alex Zara took with Alex taking second after winning against the top seeds in the tournament. It was obvious that it was Zara's event, as he really shined in a lot of play. Yet Ronnie Yeghanazary, who also stopped playing tournaments for almost a year, is a tough player.

In the boys 12 and under, once again Patrick Kawka faces off against Aashish Daulat. Aashish'a Dad Jaldeep is on the tournament committee, and his clinic sponsored the tournament scholarships. Today his son worked his way through the draw , beating the extremely talented Cameron Linden.

Cameron's dad is a supporter of VegasTennis.com , and has always been extremely enthusiastic about tennis in Las Vegas. I heard he may be moving back to California, that would be a loss, as he and his son, in a short time, have made an impact on the tournament scene in Las Vegas. Not only are they excellent competitors but always a joy to see, Mr Linden's sincere contributions to this tournament were felt, and significant. Thank you.

Meanwhile Aashish won against his son and advanced. Taras Motsny, often in the 12 finals, was taken out by the tough playing Cameron Linden and Patrick Kawka was responsible for beating another tough player Kristofer Yee.

Brandon Kurtz, who's mom sponsored the event, took home the family trophy by playing excellent tennis. He won a gift basket made by WILD OATS

Also coming in from out of State is Jade Frampton, who's family has become part of the Las Vegas tennis community, although they live in St. George, Utah. The Frampton's come into town often and have been well received, including their other daughter's who are professional singers. She advanced deep into the draw as usual, before knocking into one of the top player's in Sarah Alamshaw.

Sarah then made it to the final where she was stopped by a athlete by the name of Amelia Martinez. Amelia is part of the Mission Hills group, which is creating starts by the month. Amelia also plays soccer and was a winner in Hennessy's junior Circuit as well. The VegasTennis.com BALLY'S CUP was Amelia's first win in the 12 and under as she just moved up. On her way she had to beat the #1, #2 & #3 seed to take first place. This summer will mark Amelia's first year of playing tennis with soccer being her main sport. Last weekend, her
team Tabagators-Green won the State Cup championship and she is been known
to play a soccer and a tennis tournament both on the same weekend, which
makes for a commuting and scheduling adventure for her Mom Ana. I think now
she is leaning more towards tennis and wants to devote more time to the
sport.

In the boy's 16 draw Rishi Daulat maintained his dominance in this field by beating the formidable Jonathan Ribaste. Jonathan however ended up with the new head tennis racquet from GALYAN'S as Rishi chose to take a sweat suit as the winner's prize.
Jonathan has taken this tournament and a few in the past to put the field on notice that he is rising quickly. Unafraid to play anyone, he has the right attitude and it is starting to seep in as he was able to beat the almost unstoppable
Stan Breland in the semifinals, proving that his Hennessy Circuit win was not just a fluke. Ribaste, who has been coached by Marty Hennessy for years, is now swinging with the best in town, and holding his own. Rishi has been doing this for years and it is nice to see Daulat will be getting some more competition.
